Claudio Lomnitz is the Director of the Social Study of Disappearance Lab (SSDL), starting the SSDL to formalize the work of students, who had been supporting collectivos throughout Mexico in their search for the disappeared.
He is the Campbell Family Professor of Anthropology and the Chair of the Department of Anthropology. He currently works on the history, politics and culture of Latin America, and particularly of Mexico.
