Emily Hoffman is the Editorial and Curatorial Manager of the Social Study of Disappearance Lab (SSDL) and a doctoral candidate in the Department of Anthropology and the Institute for Comparative Literature and Society at Columbia University.
Her research focuses on the state child protection apparatus in Eastern Oklahoma, and the cultural itinerary of "child abuse and neglect" as an alibi for failed social provisioning. She joined SSDL in September 2022 and took a leading role in the conceptualization of the Lab’s mission, in addition to supporting its administration and development. She now leads the development of the Disappearance Archive, a new archival project for SSDL.
